WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
If you want to pursue a career in Beauty Therapy, then this is an excellent introduction to anyone who wishes to embark on a new career in this field. Whether you want to work in a local beauty salon, health farm, leisure centre, day spa, cruise liners, provided mobile therapy, work from home, beauty in the air or simple be your own boss, this course will prepare you to the highest standard required. This qualification is usually requested by salon owners / employers and is the basis for all beauty qualifications.
COURSE CONTENT
The following modules will be covered in the course:
FACIAL TREATMENTS
This is a comprehensive study in skin care. Practical skills include: cleansing, toning, skin analysis, exfoliation, moisturising, steaming, extraction, a full facial massage routine, selecting, mixing and applying tailor-made face masks for a variety of skin types. You will also be able to provide accurate skin care recommendations for all skin problems and complaints. The theory involves the anatomy & physiology of the upper torso, including the muscles, bones, blood and nerve supply and an in-depth study of the skin, its diseases and associated disorders.
EYELASH & BROW TREATMENTS
This module covers eyelash and eyebrow tinting for a variety for different hair and skin types, eyebrow shaping, and the application and correct removal of individual and strip false eyelashes. The theory includes contra indications and contra actions.
WAXING TECHNIQUES
You will learn how to remove hair using two different methods: hot bees wax and cream wax , as well as other methods of removal. You will also learn how to lighten hair using a safe bleaching process. All areas of the face and body will be worked on. The theory includes the anatomy and physiology of the hair, the hair growth cycle, contra indications and contra actions.
MANICURE & PEDICURE TREATMENTS
Here you will learn all the maintenance and care techniques for the nails and skin of the hands and feet. You'll learn how to apply single and multi-layer varnishing as well French manicure and pedicure techniques. The practical training also includes paraffin wax treatments, heated mittens, warm oil, exfoliation and mask treatments. The theory includes an in-depth study of the structure of the nail as well as the anatomy and physiology of the rest of the lower leg and forearms.
MAKE UP APPLICATIONS
This module will give you training in professional make-up application for day, evening and special occasions. You will learn how to use colour corrective products and foundations, blushers, eye and lip products to enhance your clients features.
HEALTH & SAFETY
Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety is a fundamental part of the course ensuring that you understand all aspects in relation to the work place. The theory is covered in a home study pack whilst the practice element is maintain throughout the course.
PROMOTE ADDITIONAL PRODUCTS & SERVICES TO CLIENTS
This module is concerned with marketing your services and ensuring that your recommendations are necessary and helpful for the client. The theory in this module is covered in an assignment. Client counselling / consultation techniques, product sales are also covered.
EFFECTIVENESS AT WORK
Maintaining your effectiveness at work is fundamental in any salon environment. With these evaluation skills you will be able to constantly monitor and develop your abilities which will increase your employability.
FULFIL RECEPTION DUTIES
With this module you will have the opportunity to develop your salon reception skills and management duties.
If you have already gained qualifications in any of the units listed this knowledge can be accredited meaning that you may not need to repeat past qualifications.The units listed make up the full diploma. You will be required to complete ten case studies for each unit on friends and family, a selection of assignments and activities before you sit the examinations at the conclusion of each unit.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
No previous knowledge required, but a good general education is essential as this is a demanding course. An excellent level of English is required. You must be able to speak, read, write and understand English fluently. You may be asked to sit an entry test if necessary. Entry is via initial interview.
DURATION
A deposit of £250 is required upon enrolment and the balance can be paid in instalments. A complete product and equipment kit is available at a cost of £500 and if preferred this can be added to instalments.
COSTS
£1360.00
A VTCT lifetime registration fee of £16.00 may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS AWARDED
The Academy of Beauty Therapy offers industry-recognised qualifications and at the completion of your course and providing that you provided sufficient evidence your will be awarded the following qualifications:
NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy - Awarded by VTCT Examination Board
Diploma of Beauty Therapy - Awarded by The Academy of Beauty Therapy
Both of which will enable you to obtain insurance from any recognised Insurance Company.
